US notifies Eurojust of withdrawal from group monitoring Russian war crimes in Ukraine

The United States has formally notified Eurojust that it is withdrawing from the international group created to investigate the actions of the leaders responsible for the invasion of Ukraine.

Sky News reports this with reference to Ukrinform.

“Eurojust has been informed by the US authorities that they will no longer participate in the work of the International Centre for the Prosecution of the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine (ICPA). The ICPA, organised by Eurojust, continues its activities in support of national investigations into the crime of aggression related to the war in Ukraine,” the statement said.

The International Centre for the Prosecution of the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine was created with the aim of holding the Russian leadership accountable for crimes that international law classifies as aggression.

As reported by Ukrinform, the ICPC was closed in The Hague in July 2023.

The Trump administration has given no specific reason for leaving the investigative team, other than the same explanation it has given for other personnel and major decisions: the need to reallocate resources.
