ER expressed condolences to Ukraine over Russian strike on Sumy
Residents of Europe shared their reactions to the events on social networks, Ukrinform reports.
“Heartbreaking scenes from Sumy this morning, where people gathered for Palm Sunday and then fell victim to Russian missiles. A horrific example of how Russia is escalating its attacks while Ukraine has accepted an unconditional ceasefire. My thoughts are with Ukraine's Pele today,” wrote EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Pisi Kaja Kallas.
Moldovan President Maia Sandu noted that her country mourns together with Ukraine over the losses in Sumy. “Palm Sunday is a day of peace. This morning, when people gathered for prayer, Russia attacked Sumy, killing and wounding civilians. Moldova mourns together with Ukraine and calls for strengthening air defense to save lives,” Sandu said.
She stressed that “the aggressor must be held accountable. There is no justification for such evil.”
Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna also expressed his condolences:
“There are not enough words in the world to describe the inhumanity and atrocities of Russia. Our hearts are with Ukraine. Sincere condolences to all those affected by the attack in Sumy.”

EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Mathernova called the Russian strike on Sumy another war crime and expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
“Today we woke up to another terrible morning, my friends. I am horrified by the betrayal from the Russians. Today they started a new massive attack on civilians,” Maternova wrote.
She added that two ballistic missiles hit the center of Sumy at a time when people were gathering for Palm Sunday mass.
“This is a terrible tragedy. The attack on the parishioners on Palm Sunday is a war crime. It seems that nothing is sacred for Russians – neither churches, nor Ukrainian children. Er is increasing pressure on Russia and supporting Ukraine in every possible way. It is time for the whole world to wake up,” the ambassador emphasized.
