Support for displaced Ukrainians to become one of the key points of the election campaign in the Czech Republic – expert

Although about two-thirds of Czechs support the integration of displaced Ukrainians, the issue of their support will be one of the central aspects of the election campaign in the Czech Republic this fall.

This point of view was expressed by Pavel Havlicek, a research fellow at the Association for International Studies (Czech Republic), during an expert discussion on the topic of “European integration of Ukraine through the prism of elections in EU countries,” a Ukrinform correspondent reports.

The expert stressed that Ukraine remains a key issue in the parliamentary election campaign in the Czech Republic, and issues of military aid, rescue operations and refugees will be actively discussed during its acute period in the coming months.

About two-thirds of the Czech population are thinking about how to integrate refugees from Ukraine and what assistance to provide them, the expert noted, adding that the issue of supporting refugees will remain on the election agenda and will become an important element during the election campaign.

He predicted that the Czech Republic would maintain a significant part of its aid to Ukraine. According to the expert, traditionally, when political parties face security challenges, they are not inclined to take radical measures.

At the same time, according to Havlíček, the Czech civil society should actively interact with the electorate and political parties to ensure the stability of the Czech Republic's security in relation to Ukraine. “This will become one of the most important issues in the coming months,” the expert believes.

As reported, parliamentary elections in the Czech Republic are scheduled for October 2025. A specific date has not yet been set, but according to the Czech constitution, elections to the lower house of parliament are held every four years, and the next one should take place before the end of October 2025.
