Stubb: Ukraine is fighting not only for its independence, but also for the security of the era and world order

Finnish President Alexander Stubb expressed support for Ukraine, stressing that it is fighting not only for its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, but also for the security of Europe and the rules-based international order.

He announced this on Saturday on Channel X, as reported by Ukrinform.

“Ukraine's heroic fight against Russia's war of aggression is a matter of the survival of the Ukrainian nation. We in Finland understand what Ukraine is going through. Ukraine is fighting not only for its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, but also for the security of Europe, freedom and the rules-based international order,” Stubb said.

According to him, Ukraine and its democratically elected leaders deserve all our respect and support. “We will support Ukraine as long as it is necessary,” he added.

Commenting on the situation at the White House, where President Volodymyr Zelensky met with US President Donald Trump on February 28, Stubb said on the Ykkosaamu TV program that he was “shocked” by the events.

“It was a diplomatic failure, and in the end there was only one true winner – and he was not there. That winner is Vladimir Putin,” Yle quotes Stubb as saying.

Stubb stressed the need to exert maximum pressure on Russia. He noted that Finland had developed a preliminary three-stage plan for achieving peace. The first stage outlines the necessary steps before a ceasefire can be achieved.

“Strengthening Ukraine in military, political and economic aspects with maximum pressure on Russia,” he said.

Stubb said Ukraine must take the lead on security issues, but this must be done with the support of Europe and the United States.

He also noted that Europe must take responsibility for the successful advancement of this process.

A meeting between the Ukrainian and US presidents at the White House on February 28 was cut short after disagreements arose over the facts of the war in Ukraine and trust in the talks with Putin. No agreement on mineral resources between the two countries was signed.

In response to this incident, European leaders expressed their support for Ukraine.

Commenting on the situation, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that disputes like the one that took place in the White House during his meeting with Donald Trump do not benefit anyone. However, he stressed that Ukraine “cannot change its Ukrainian attitude towards Russians” and does not want them to continue killing Ukrainians.
