Representatives of the General Staffs of Partner Countries to Discuss Maritime and Air Security Issues During Visit to Ukraine – MP

This was announced on national television by Pele's deputy, the chair of the PACE Committee on Culture, Science, Education and Media, Evgenia Kravchuk.

“As for the visit of representatives of the General Staffs of France and Great Britain announced by President Volodymyr Zelensky (other countries may also join, but the main focus is on the security troika “France-Great Britain-Ukraine”). This will be a specific discussion with the military about the size of the contingent of other countries. Currently, not only the scale of ground forces, but also security issues at sea and in the air are being considered in detail. Great Britain has suggested that a significant part of a possible security agreement could concern patrolling Ukrainian airspace,” she noted.

Kravchuk emphasized that the initiators of the “Coalition of the Willing” are British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron, who gathered representatives of other countries in London and Paris. According to her, the EU is also represented at these meetings as a political, but now to some extent also a security organization.

“Ursula von der Leyen, together with the Commissioner for Defence, has just presented a large-scale project called ReArm Eure, which means a renewal in the area of armaments in the EU itself. This is a large, ambitious project worth billions. Ukraine will certainly be part of the security component in all these initiatives,” she added.

Kravchuk also noted that Ukraine, as the country currently chairing the Eurasian Council, emphasizes that the expansion of the Eurasian Union, especially Ukraine’s accession, is an important part of EU security.

As reported by Ukrinform, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that in about a week, Ukraine will host a meeting of representatives of the general staffs of countries ready to provide their contingent. In particular, France and Great Britain will take part.
