The team from Ukrainian esports club NaVi celebrates winning during the IEM Katowice tournament in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on March 3 in Katowice, Poland. Starting on Sep. 7, Ukrainian esports players are recognized as professional athletes. Now they can apply for sport, rather than tourist, visas while visiting international esports tournaments.

Ukraine has recognized professional video gamers as athletes.

Now, esports is an official sport in the country, the Ukrainian Esports Federation announced on Sept. 7, saying the decision had been discussed for a year by the federation, the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine and the International Esports Federation.
