Slovakia will not provide financial or military support to Ukraine – Fico

The Slovak government does not intend to provide Ukraine with financial or military assistance to continue its conflict with Russia, Prime Minister Robert Fico said.

He reported this in his commentary on TV channel X, referring to the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which took place on February 28, as reported by Ukrinform.

“Slovakia will not provide Ukraine with either financial or military support to continue the war. If other countries decide to do so, we will respect that,” Fico said.

He also criticized what he called the “unrealistic strategy of 'peace through strength',” suggesting that the strategy merely justifies protracted conflict.

Fico also suggested that the final outcome of the EU summit on 6 March should include a call for an immediate ceasefire, regardless of when a final peace agreement is reached.

The Slovak Prime Minister also insisted that the EU summit document clearly states the requirement to restore gas transit through Ukraine to Slovakia and Western Europe.

“If the summit does not take into account that there are other ideas than simply continuing the war, the EU Council may not be able to reach consensus on conclusions on Ukraine on Thursday,” Fico warned.

Earlier, Ukrinform reported that President Zelensky's meeting with Trump on Friday was interrupted, and discussions between Zelensky, Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance at the White House became increasingly tense.
