Ukrainian Antarctic expedition arrives at Academician Vernadsky station

The research vessel Noosphere delivered the 30th Ukrainian Antarctic expedition to the Academician Vernadsky station.

As reported by Ukrinform, the National Antarctic Scientific Center (NASC) reported this on its Facebook page.

“Our vessel Noosphere delivered the 30th Ukrainian Antarctic expedition to the Academician Vernadsky station. This moment occurred late in the evening of March 15, 2025, Ukrainian time,” the statement said.

With Antarctica in the midst of autumn and highly unpredictable weather, the PAR team and the Noosphere crew are rushing to unload the vessel. They need to transport a year’s supply of food and other essentials, including 140 cubic meters of fuel for the generators that provide electricity and heat to the Akademik Vernadsky.

Since the seabed topography does not allow the Noosphere to moor directly to the station's pier, all cargo will be transferred by motorboats from the Pena Strait, where the ship is anchored, to the Akademik Vernadsky station.

The 29th Ukrainian Antarctic Expedition will also hand over its responsibilities to the 30th team. “It is extremely important to ensure the continuity of the collection of meteorological, geophysical and biological data using unified methods and the transfer of information to global databases,” the NASC added.

At the same time, the seasonal group's researchers will complete their work and pack the samples for laboratory analysis on the “mainland”.

In addition, construction industry specialists will sum up the results of modernization and determine tasks for the next year.
