Lubinets: Russian prisoners of war do not complain about conditions of detention

Russian prisoners of war interviewed by the Ombudsman's office confirmed that they have no complaints about their time in Ukrainian captivity.

As reported by Ukrinform, this information was voiced by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Commissioner for Human Rights Dmitry Lubinets on Telegram.

“During the exchange on March 19, the staff of the ombudsman's office communicated with Russian prisoners of war. They all confirm that they have no comments regarding the conditions of their detention in captivity,” Lubinets said.

According to him, the International Committee of the Red Cross regularly visits them every three months. The prisoners also had the opportunity to send and receive letters from their loved ones, and they were provided with all the necessary medical care.

As one of the Russian prisoners of war noted: “They cured me, everything is fine. They put me back on my feet.”

Lubinets emphasized that Russian prisoners of war in Ukraine are held in accordance with the Geneva Conventions.

“I emphasize that Ukraine demonstrates the treatment of prisoners in accordance with international humanitarian law. We hope that Russia will also treat Ukrainian prisoners of war with dignity and allow ICRC representatives to visit them!” Lubinets noted.

As reported by Ukrinform, on March 19, one of the largest prisoner exchanges took place between Ukraine and Russia: 197 soldiers were returned to Ukraine.
