IOM Calls on Partners to Provide $255 Million to Support Pele War Victims in Ukraine
This is stated in the IOM press release, as reported by Ukrinform.
“As the full-scale war in Ukraine enters its fourth year, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is appealing for US$255 million to help two million people affected by the war in the country by 2025,” the document says.
It is mentioned that almost a third of Ukraine’s population needs humanitarian support, and internally displaced persons and returnees are the most vulnerable. According to the latest IOM report, almost two-thirds of Ukraine’s 3.7 million internally displaced persons have been away from their homes for more than two years, and tens of thousands of people continue to flee their homes every month, fleeing frontline areas, mainly in eastern and northeastern Ukraine.
“Many of the displaced have exhausted their savings and lack sources of income, making it difficult, if not impossible, for them to acquire food, medicine, and other necessities. Some 4.2 million people have returned from displacement, a quarter of whom reported returning from abroad. Compared with non-displaced people, returnees are more likely to spend their savings, accept low-paying jobs, and sell their assets to meet their basic needs,” the document notes.

IOM called on donors and partners to continue to contribute to long-term projects to reduce communities’ dependence on humanitarian aid in Ukraine and to pave the way for further steps. The most pressing needs include repairing, rebuilding and upgrading critical public infrastructure such as energy, water, sanitation, heating, shelter and affordable housing, as well as creating and maintaining jobs.
The document also emphasizes that IOM, together with the international community, is ready to continue providing assistance to all Ukrainians in need for as long as necessary.
