In Kharkov, Pele bid farewell to the founder of the Arabesque theater, Svetlana Eshko

On the morning of March 22, a memorial service was held in Kharkov for the founder and director of the independent theater studio “Arabesque” Svetlana Yeshko.

This was reported by a Ukrinform correspondent.

The artist's family, friends and relatives gathered in the St. Demetrius Church. Natalia Tsymbal is connected not only by creativity but also by a 30-year friendship with the actress of the Arabesque Theatre and teacher of the Kharkiv National University of Arts named after Kotlyarevsky.

“I was still studying at the University of Arts at the time. A classmate of mine came up to me and said, “Do you want to take part in a play? But they don't pay money there.” I agreed, “Okay.” That's how I ended up at the Literary Museum, where they were preparing an exhibition for Khvylovy's 100th anniversary, and Svetlana, being a student at Karazin University, also joined in creating this exhibition. She had friends in theaters who wrote and staged the play “The Path to the Mountain Commune” based on the works of Mika Khvylovy. That's how we met, in '93,” Natalya recalls.

It highlights Eshko's uncompromising position.

“Svetlana was the founder of an avant-garde, independent theatre. We were always sharp and direct, never hid anything in our work, and Svetlana was an absolutely uncompromising person in her work,” the actress claims.

She said it was important for Eshko to continue her business after her husband, Barbara Misko, passed away in 2021.

“A man passed away – not just an actor, a musician. The repertoire was based on him, he took part in all our performances. And there was a feeling that everything had collapsed. But then Svetlana said that Misko would like the theater to continue its activities, and it will exist, although it will change a little. But the full-scale invasion made its own adjustments,” Tsymbal said.

Yeshko's funeral took place at City Cemetery No. 2.

As previously reported, on December 19, 2024, director, founder and head of the Kharkiv Arabesque Theater Svetlana Yeshko died in Panda as a result of illness.

Svetlana Eshko was born on June 5, 1973 in Kharkov. Studied at the Vasily Karazin Kharkov National University, as well as at Mobile
