Wizz Air to launch 400 routes from Ukraine within six months of airspace opening – CEO

European low-cost airline Wizz Air has developed a strategy to launch 400 routes within the first six months of the reopening of Ukrainian skies, which will allow it to carry 5 million passengers annually, Wizz Air CEO Jozsef Varadi said.

“As soon as Ukraine is ready, we will be ready to resume (air flights). We are not only considering the possibility of operating flights to Ukraine, but we are also planning to launch flights from Ukraine, organizing our base operations there. We have grand plans for Ukraine… We have created a strategy to form a network of about 400 routes in the first 6 months, which will provide a capacity of 5 million seats per year. And when you (Ukraine) are ready, we will be ready too,” Varadi said at the conference “Logistics as a Driver of Economic Growth” organized by the We Build Ukraine think tank.

He also noted that Wizz Air representatives have visited Ukraine several times and held negotiations with interested parties, including Ukrainian airports.

“We are very close to concluding commercial agreements with each of them (airports). I am confident that we are really ready to work,” Varadi said.

Earlier it was reported that the management of the Boryspil International Airport in Budapest held talks with representatives of the European low-cost airline Wizz Air about the earliest possible launch of air traffic after the opening of the airspace.
