Smart people think longer: an unexpected discovery by scientists

People with a higher level of intelligence think more slowly. They answered only simple questions quickly, but it took more time to solve complex ones. Researchers used various tests to track brain activity, and the results were a real surprise. Before that, it was believed that smart people think faster. But it turned out that life is not a brain-ring, informs Ukr.Media.

The research team, which included representatives from Germany, Spain, and Australia, studied how intellectual behavior develops in adults by creating personalized brain models for 650 participants — 360 women and 290 men.

Thanks to them, scientists were able to see the activity of each brain and analyze the intellectual characteristics and reaction time of a particular person. The subjects were given tests of varying difficulty.

It turned out that participants with higher IQs solved simple tasks faster and spent longer on complex ones than others, but made fewer mistakes. The parts of the brain of such people were well synchronized with each other, information was exchanged, but the final decision was delayed.

In people with lower intelligence, the opposite was true. Their brains were ready to respond quickly to complex tasks, but they made mistakes.

This observation is notable because it challenges the notion that higher intelligence is the result of a faster brain, the scientists noted.
