Witkoff Sees 'Real Progress' in Ukraine Ceasefire

US Special Representative for the Middle East Steve Witkoff reported significant progress on the ceasefire in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

He noted this in a comment for CNN on Sunday, as reported by Ukrinform.

“The president (Trump – ed.) is talking about a 'week' time frame, and I disagree with him. I sincerely hope that we see real progress here (on the ceasefire – ed.),” Witkoff said.

He added that, in his opinion, significant progress has been made in this direction since the inauguration of Donald Trump.

“Nobody expected that progress would be so fast. The situation is extremely difficult, and yet we are bridging the gap between the two sides,” Witkoff said.

He also did not rule out the possibility that Trump could have a telephone conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin next week.

“There are still many issues to be discussed, but I believe that there will be a truly constructive and positive dialogue between the two presidents this week,” he concluded.

As reported by Ukrinform, on Tuesday, March 11, a meeting of US and Ukrainian delegations took place in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia).

Following this meeting, the parties made a joint statement.

Ukraine expressed its readiness to accept the US proposal to immediately introduce a temporary 30-day ceasefire, which could be extended by mutual agreement of the parties, provided that it is accepted and simultaneously implemented by the Russian Federation.
