German Foreign Minister Arrives in Kyiv

On April 1, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock arrived in Ukraine on an official visit.

This was reported on the website of the German Foreign Ministry, as reported by Ukrinform.

“In the current hopeless situation in relations between the US and Russia, it is extremely important for us Europeans to demonstrate continued support for Ukraine…” the ministry explained the purpose of her visit.

She noted that Putin intended to seize Kyiv and Ukraine in three days, but after more than three years of brutal Russian aggression, it has become obvious that his plans have failed; Putin has dragged Ukraine and Russia into a brutal war of attrition that he cannot win. Ukrainians are courageously and resolutely defending their independence and democracy, Baerbock emphasized.

The head of the German Foreign Ministry emphasized that no one strives for peace more than the Ukrainians.

“Ukraine is ready for an immediate ceasefire, but it is Putin who is stalling for time, rejecting peace initiatives and continuing his aggressive war under the guise of international law,” the Foreign Minister noted. She said Putin is pretending to be ready for negotiations, while remaining steadfast in his goals and refusing to compromise.

At the same time, the Foreign Minister called on Ukraine's partners to remain vigilant, emphasizing that a peace proposal is not the same as real peace.

Baerbock added that at the upcoming meeting of NATO foreign ministers, the EU countries will convey to the American side that Putin's delaying tactics should not be supported.

She reaffirmed Germany's unwavering support for Ukraine, assuring that the country will not back down from its position. Germany's decision to provide 3 billion euros in short-term aid and an additional 8.25 billion euros in military support until 2029 demonstrates strong cross-party solidarity and commitment. Baerbock emphasized that this is a strong signal of Berlin's commitment to supporting Ukraine and ensuring European security.

This is reportedly Baerbock's 11th visit to Ukraine and the 9th since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion.
