Baltic states call on UN to streamline humanitarian funding for Ukraine
There is a real need for UN member states to accelerate the allocation of funds to address Ukraine’s humanitarian needs, especially after the explosion at the Kakhovka HPP, as only 26% of the previously designated amount has been provided to date.
The statement was made by Lithuania's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ritis Paulauskas, on behalf of the three Baltic states, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
Costs for overcoming the consequences of the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine as a sovereign state are constantly increasing while, as of now, only 26% of the total $3.9 billion needed for humanitarian response in Ukraine has been financed, he explained.

In this regard, he called on the international community on behalf of the three Baltic states to provide the necessary funding.
He also noted that Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania are among the largest donors of aid to Ukraine in terms of the aid to GDP ratio. These three countries provided Ukraine with EUR 1.5 million in immediate aid to eliminate the consequences of the Kakhovka HPPP dam breach.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, a meeting of the UN Security Council was held in New York on Friday to discuss the situation in Ukraine, including the consequences of the blowing up of the Kakhovka dam by Russia and Moscow’s threat of a terrorist attack at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
