UNESCO Condemns Murder of Ukrinform Journalist Tatyana Kulik
The National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting reported this, Ukrinform reports.
As indicated, UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay called in her statement for a thorough and transparent investigation to bring those responsible to justice.
“I condemn the murder of Tatyana Kulik and call for a thorough and transparent investigation to ensure that those responsible are held accountable. Journalists play a vital role in informing society in conflict situations and must therefore be protected. I reiterate the need to respect international humanitarian law, including UN Security Council Resolution 2222 on the protection of journalists, media workers and associated persons in conflict situations, as reaffirmed in the UN Pact for the Future,” said the UNESCO Director-General.

The Permanent Delegation is reported to be in close contact with representatives of the Office of the Director-General of UNESCO and the organization's press service to ensure an adequate response by UNESCO to the tragic death of Ukrainian journalist Tatyana Kulik. In particular, on February 26, the Delegation sent a report to UNESCO Member States, UNESCO leadership and structural units of the Organization's Secretariat on the Russian drone attack on the Kyiv region on February 25, emphasizing that Ukrainian media, culture and academia are seriously suffering from the consequences of Russia's war against Ukraine.
The Permanent Delegation condemned the horrific war crimes and atrocities committed by Russia against Ukraine and UNESCO's mandate. The communication called on UNESCO to step up its efforts to protect UNESCO values in Ukraine and to respond to the war crimes committed by Russia.

The UNESCO chief's statement on the matter was made earlier, in October 2024, in response to a call by UNESCO's National Committee for the Information for All Programme for an open investigation into the death of journalist Victoria Roshchina, who was imprisoned in Russia. Her body has not yet been handed over to her family, and no details about her death have been disclosed.
As reported earlier, on the night of February 26, in the village of Kryukovshchyna in the Kyiv region, a Russian drone struck a private home, killing Ukrinform journalist, author and host of the project “Nation Invincible”, acting head of the Ukrinform multimedia department Tetyana Kulik and her husband Pavel Ivanchov, an oncologist and head of the surgical department of the National Medical University.

Tatyana Kulik was a member of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine. Previously, she held the position of editor-in-chief and presenter on the Central Channel (KDTRK), and also worked for the World Broadcasting Service of Ukraine.
She studied at the National University of Culture and Arts. In 2015-2017, she held the post of deputy director of the Khreshchatyk 26 branch of the National Public Broadcasting Company of Ukraine, Kyiv Regional Directorate.
