The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump will revoke the legal status of over 500,000 migrants hailing from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela, according to CNN.

This action pertains to a set of temporary residency permit initiatives established during the tenure of the 46th President of the United States, Joe Biden.

Those migrants involved in these initiatives have been instructed to depart the country by April 24, which is 30 days following the publication of the notification in the Federal Register.

Earlier this January, the Department of Homeland Security declared the phased cessation of such programs, which permitted certain migrants to reside and work in the U.S. temporarily.

The department asserts that the Biden administration exploited humanitarian legislation for temporary residency programs by extending eligibility to nationals from several countries. Consequently, this led to the entry of 1.5 million migrants into the nation, as stated in a press release.

“All of this was halted on the first day of the Trump administration,” the Department of Homeland Security remarked, noting that each migrant would be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

  • On January 21, 2025, Trump restricted automatic U.S. citizenship for children of undocumented immigrants and “visa tourists.” On January 23, the court temporarily obstructed this directive, but Trump indicated his intention to appeal.
  • On January 24, White House spokesperson Leavitt unveiled the initial footage of the deportation of undocumented immigrants from the United States.
  • On February 7, reports emerged that American officials had kept over 100 Indian migrants deported from the U.S. in handcuffs during the entire 40-hour flight back home.
