“Now I've started doing it myself”: A neighbor told why she only washes clothes in rainy weather

Our neighbor is a respectable woman, with a lot of life experience, always neatly dressed, and her house, they say, is like a museum: everything shines. But she has one strange thing – she starts washing clothes only in rainy weather, informs Ukr.Media.

At first I thought it was just a coincidence. But after a few months I saw for myself: as soon as the clouds gather outside the window, clotheslines with hanging laundry appear in her garden.

Observations that surprise

What is especially interesting is how she does it. If you look at her site, you can see the whole process. She is wearing an obligatory apron, always with her hair neatly pinned up, methodically hanging things up. To the sounds of rain, she shakes each thing twice, as if she is driving away some invisible dust. She hangs them up strictly in order: first small things, then towels, and finally large sheets.

One day I met her near my house, couldn't resist and asked: “What kind of fashion is this – washing clothes in the rain?” She smiled and immediately replied: “If I tell you, you'll do it too.”

What they say about washing in the rain

To at least understand this phenomenon, I dug through articles and old posts. It turns out that there is a whole category of people who prefer to do laundry in rainy weather.

There are several reasons:

  • Clean air. When it rains, dust and dirt settle in the air, and the humidity makes it fresh. They say that in such air, things become softer and free of unnecessary odors.
  • Save time. Rain can serve as a natural “humidifier” – fabrics become softer, and after drying they are easier to iron.
  • Ritual. Some people really believe that rain helps rid things of negativity. They say that all the accumulated energy dirt is washed away along with the drops of water.

The mystery is revealed

But all this is theory. And here's what actually happened. The other day, when it was raining again since morning, I decided to go to the store. I come back and see that my neighbor has hung out her laundry in the yard again. And when she saw me, she started smiling.

“Don't think I'm being whimsical. I just love rain. It's been that way since I was a child: my mother always said that things smell different after rain. Dust doesn't settle on them like in dry weather. And ironing such things is much more pleasant. I guess I'm just used to it.”

You know, this story made me think. Each of us is surrounded by small habits and rituals that we rarely notice. But they are what make us who we are. So, if you have your own strange habits, take care of them. Maybe one day they will be the reason for someone's kind smile. And the next time it rains, try hanging your laundry outside. Who knows, you might like it too.
