We have prepared some little tricks for you that will help you make hand washing easier. Bookmark these effective tips so that you always know how to wash clothes by hand correctly when the time comes.

Use the right tools

If hand washing your clothes is unavoidable, stock up on the right set of tools that will help you cope with this process no worse than a washing machine. So, you will need:

  • 2 basins – for soaking and hand washing;
  • abstergent;
  • rubber gloves;
  • a metal washboard – it will take the brunt of washing things;
  • A soft brush for clothes will help you deal with difficult stains.

Also try to organize your washing area so that you don't have to constantly bend over. If possible, place the bowl on a chair in the bathtub or install special crossbars. This will make it more comfortable, prevent back pain, and reduce fatigue.

Soak things

Armed with two basins, be sure to soak the items you will be washing by hand in one of them. This will help you avoid putting too much effort into scrubbing off unwanted stains and dirt, and it won't take much more time. It only takes 10-15 minutes to soak your clothes.

If you see difficult stains on your clothes, lather them well and let them soak in the soapy solution for the same 10-15 minutes.

Choose a detergent

To make your hand washing go smoothly and without any tangles, use liquid detergent instead of regular powder. This product has many advantages over granular powder, because liquid detergent:

  • dissolves faster in water;
  • evenly distributed in water;
  • does not precipitate;
  • dissolves well in water of any temperature (regular powders are easier to dissolve in warm or hot water, and more difficult in cold water);
  • Rinses well from fabric fibers.

Water temperature

Do not wash your clothes by hand in hot water – it will not benefit either the skin of your hands or the clothes themselves. In order to choose the right water temperature, determine the composition of the clothes:

  • natural linen and cotton can be washed by hand at any temperature, but it is better to choose + 40 C;
  • wool and natural silk – comfortable temperature from + 30 C to + 40 C;
  • viscose should be washed in water up to + 30 C;
  • synthetics can be washed by hand at a temperature of + 40 C;
  • It is best to wash items made from mixed materials in water from +40°C to +50°C.

If you cannot determine what material the item is made of, wash it at a temperature of 30-35 degrees.

Sort things

Be sure to sort your clothes when hand washing, just like you do for machine washing. You can wash light items first, and then wash colored or dark items in the same water. There are also a few other rules to follow:

  • do not wash delicate fabrics with coarse items;
  • you can't wash black clothes with white ones;
  • Fabrics that shed should be washed separately from everything else.
