Ukraine will not put up with Russia’s usurpation of USSR’s seat in UN Security Council – Kuleba
Minister for Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba wrote this on Facebook, commenting on the process initiated by Ukraine aimed at excluding Russia from the UN Security Council and the organization as in general, Ukrinform reports.
"We have officially stated our detailed and argued position on why Russia's stay in the UN Council and in the organization in general is illegitimate. We have provided detailed evidence of how 31 years ago the Russian delegation had essentially just occupied the USSR chair in the UN – a state that had ceased to exist at that point – without any statutory reason for it," Kuleba wrote.
According to him, the viation of the Statute was based on simple change of plates "USSR" to "Russian Federation”, which is a blatant viation of Article 4 of the United Nations Statute that clearly defines the only legitimate procedure for acquiring membership in the Organization.
“For over three decades, this shameful fact just closed their eyes. But Ukraine will not be silent. Today we started the fight for depriving Russia of the status of a permanent member of the UN radbez. This fight is not going to be easy. It will be counteracted, and not just Russia. But we are not going to put up with the lies and falsification. Tasks can be difficult, but nothing is impossible,” the minister wrote.
As reported by Ukrinform, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine issued a statement on the illegitimacy of the Russian Federation's presence in the UN Security Council and in the United Nations as a whe.
