UK, France to work with Ukraine on ceasefire plan – Starmer

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said his talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, US President Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron had resulted in an agreement that Britain – along with France and perhaps one or two other countries – would work with Ukraine on “a plan to stop the fighting, and then we will discuss that plan with the United States.”

“I think we've taken a step in the right direction,” Starmer said in an interview with the BBC.

Commenting on the meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump at the White House on 28 February, Starmer stressed that “nobody wants to see this.”

He said that after the meeting between the Ukrainian and American leaders, he called Trump and Zelensky, as he believes that “the focus must be on sustainable peace in Ukraine”, which the British Prime Minister called “very important” for the security and defense of the United Kingdom and the United Kingdom.

Starmer also recalled Zelensky's visit to Downing Street on March 1, and spoke about conversations with French President Emmanuel Macron and US President Donald Trump after meeting with the Ukrainian leader.

“And my goal, or driving force, was to overcome that, so to speak, and bring us back to the central theme,” he stressed.

The British Prime Minister expressed confidence that the US President is committed to lasting peace.

“I clearly understand that he (Trump – ed.) wants a stable peace, this follows from my conversations with him,” Starmer said, supporting the position of the American leader.

As reported by Ukrinform, on Saturday in London, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer discussed measures to end the war with a just peace, security guarantees and specific steps to strengthen Ukraine's position.
