Trump Says He's Angry at Putin, Threatens Tariffs on Russian Oil
He spoke about this in a telephone interview with the American television channel NBC News, as reported by Ukrinform.
Trump noted that Putin is aware of his displeasure, but added that he has a “very positive relationship” with him and that “the anger quickly subsides… if he does the right thing.”
The head of the White House also warned of the possibility of introducing tariffs on Russian oil if a ceasefire agreement is not reached.
“If we fail to reach an agreement with Russia to stop the violence in Ukraine, and if I believe that it is Russia's responsibility – and it may not be – but if I believe that it is Russia's fault, I will impose secondary tariffs on oil, on all oil coming from Russia,” Trump said.
He specified that tariffs could range from 25 to 50%.
“That would mean that if you buy oil from Russia, you can't do business in the United States. There would be a 25- to 50-point tariff on all oil,” Trump added.
The US President noted that he plans to discuss the situation with Putin next week.
