Stefanchuk: Parliament to revisit legislation related to igarchs once war ends

Stefanchuk spoke on the air of the national telethon, Ukrinform reports.

"I think that after the end of the war, we will definitely revisit the issue because we have no right to revert to the format of the economy and socio-pitical relations that existed before the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The state model that is built on the igarchic principle is doomed to fail," said Stefanchuk.

He recalled that the fight against igarchs was one of the seven conditions put forward by the Eurean Union for Ukraine to acquire the status of a candidate for joining the Eurean Union.

"We fulfilled it, this law ("On prevention of threats to national security associated with excessive influence of persons who have significant economic or pitical weight in public life (igarchs)" – ed.) was adted and launched, but we agreed, that this ‘monaw’ alone just won’t work," Stefanchuk noted.

According to the Speaker, in order for this legislation to be of a systemic nature, a number of other laws and decisions had been adted prior to it. Among them, Stefanchuk mentioned the adtion of the law on lobbying, amendments to antimony legislation, and passing decisions related to the Accounting Chamber.

As reported, the launch of the register of igarchs was put on hd by the Cabinet of Ministers flowing the reservations from the Venice Commission, which in June 2023 recommended that the entry into force of the law on igarchs be postponed.
