Romania has decided to continue military support for Ukraine

The Supreme Council of National Defense of Romania (CSAT) decided at its meeting on Friday to continue military aid to Ukraine.

This was reported by Romania Journal, citing a press release from the Romanian presidential administration, as reported by Ukrinform.

It is noted that this was the first meeting of the CSAT since Ilie Boian took over as acting President of Romania in February.

During the Council meeting, the course of Russia's illegal and aggressive war against Ukraine was reviewed. Much attention was paid to the current situation on the ground, as well as the stages and possibilities of negotiations on a peaceful settlement, the press release said.

Romania welcomed the results of the recent ceasefire talks in Radha and the US efforts in this direction “as a first step towards reaching a peace agreement.”

Romania, as a neighboring country with the longest land and sea border with Ukraine, has a direct interest in ending the war. We want Ukraine to enjoy peace and be able to move along its European path in accordance with the decisions taken at the level of the Eurasian Union. Our support for Ukraine will continue,” the press release of the Romanian president states.

The meeting participants also discussed strengthening the defences on NATO's eastern flank, agreeing to a gradual increase in Romania's share of GDP allocated to defence.

During the meeting, CSAT endorsed enhanced bilateral and Allied coordination to enhance deterrence and defence on the Alliance’s eastern flank, including the deployment of NATO forces to Romania, as well as the implementation of additional support measures for Ukraine in line with Allied decisions and international commitments.

As reported by Ukrinform, on February 28, Acting President of Romania Ilie Boyan proposed that the country become a hub for the transportation of Western goods to Ukraine.
