Ukrainian woman under observation in Kyiv hospital after arriving from Italy with fever

No confirmation of coronavirus infection has followed so far.

On February 27, a Ukrainian woman was hospitalized in Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, immediately after arriving at Boryspil International Airport from Italy.

Ukrainian border guards during a temperature check recorded that the woman had fever before transferring her to one of Kyiv’s medical institutions as part of enhanced control measures to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection into Ukraine.

Press secretary of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Andriy Demchenko, told UNIAN that about 160,000 people crossing into Ukraine have been subjected to temperature screening since the launch of enhanced border control measures.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the Chinese authorities reported an outbreak of pneumonia of unknown origin in Wuhan late in December 2019.

The causative agent of the disease was a new type of coronavirus, COVID-19. The virus is transmitted from person to person, with the incubation period lasting at least two weeks.

On January 30, the World Health Organization declared an international emergency over the spread of the novel coronavirus from China.
