Traffic on the Southern Bridge will be partially restricted until August 1: what is known

In Kyiv, traffic on the Southern Bridge will be partially restricted from March 28 due to repairs to the overpass. As a result, traffic from the left to the right bank will be partially restricted for a long time.

The restrictions will last from March 28 to August 1, according to the municipal enterprise “Kyivavtoshlyakhmist”.

It is noted that they are related to the repair of the right-bank overpass of the bridge crossing in the direction of Saperno-Slobidska Street, as well as the Stolichny and Naddnipryansky highways.

The plans include repairing the reinforced concrete slab of the roadway, installing a new waterproofing layer and asphalt concrete pavement.

Repair work will be carried out in two stages with alternating traffic restrictions:

• Stage 1 – the far left and partially middle lanes;
• Stage 2 – the far right and partially the middle lanes.

Road users remind that the bridge has been in limited operational condition since 2021. According to experts, the bridge needs reconstruction with adaptation to modern norms and requirements.

The CP said that for the safe use of the structure under the existing load, specialists are constantly carrying out the necessary work. Thus, in 2016–2023, all expansion joints were replaced, and since 2024, work has been ongoing on the sidewalks: they are renewing the coating, waterproofing, railings and barrier fences, repairing the drainage system and the facade of reinforced concrete structures.

In 2024, the utility developed design documentation for the ongoing repair of the Southern Bridge. Specialists also partially repaired the bridge deck.

The CP asks that restrictions be taken into account when planning the route.

As a reminder, since March 13, the Southern Bridge in Kyiv has been opened to private transport from the left bank to the right bank. Since the beginning of the large-scale invasion, only public transport, emergency services, military and transit trucks have been allowed to use it. This restriction continues to apply from the right bank to the left bank.
