Passport processing simplified for Ukrainians abroad

Now, men aged 18 to 60 do not need to show a military registration document to obtain a Ukrainian or international passport – their status will be checked in the registry. If the data is missing, it will be entered automatically, and the registration will be completed electronically without a medical examination.

This was announced by the Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko.

The government approved changes to the Procedure for implementing the pilot project on automatic verification and checking of information about conscripts, military conscripts, and reservists, in particular regarding the rules for issuing passport documents.

According to Klymenko, employees of foreign divisions of the State Enterprise “Dokument” will now check the status of military registration in the registry. If the data is missing, it will be entered automatically and, accordingly, men will be registered with the formation of a military registration document in electronic form. And what is important — without passing a medical examination.

“After that, the Ukrainian will receive the ordered document within a certain period of time. We are working to minimize bureaucracy and simplify the process of providing state services,” the minister added.

What does this mean in practice?

  • It has become easier to apply for or replace a passport abroad – you no longer need to submit a paper or electronic military registration document.
  • Representatives of foreign divisions of the State Enterprise “Dokument” will automatically check the status of military registration when issuing a passport.
  • Men who are not yet registered will be automatically added there and, importantly, without undergoing a medical examination.
