A diesel fuel tank was damaged at the Zapadnaya NPP – what is known
Damage to a diesel fuel tank has been recorded at the temporarily occupied Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant. The fuel consumption would be enough for almost a month of emergency generator operation in the event of the plant being disconnected from external power supply.
According to Foreign Ministry spokesman Georgy Tykhyi, the situation at the ZNPP remains critical due to the actions of the Russian occupiers. Damage to the fuel tank could threaten the safety of the plant, as diesel generators are a key backup power source in the event of an emergency shutdown of the power units.
According to him, the fuel spilled due to the tank damage would be enough to power the station's emergency generators for 25 days.
“The Russians not only stole the plant, but are also unable to ensure its basic security,” Tykhy said.
The Foreign Ministry emphasized that the presence of Russian military personnel at the station and constant violations of nuclear safety standards pose a serious threat to the entire region.
Ukraine calls on the international community to increase pressure on Russia to achieve the de-occupation of the station and its transfer under the control of the IAEA and Ukrainian specialists.
Recall that Russia occupied the Zaporizhzhia NPP in early March 2022. Since then, it has been operating under Russian control.
