Environmental protection: Sweden allocating EUR 4M for new project in Ukraine
The relevant statement was made by the Ukrainian Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ministry, flowing a working trip to Sweden, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
The budget of the Institutional Coeration on EU-Accession in the Environment and Waste Sector (ENSU27) project is about EUR 4 million. It will be implemented until 2027 and include a number of coeration areas.
In particular, Swedish experts will help Ukraine prepare for a bilateral meeting with the Eurean Commission as part of the official screening and negotiation process under Chapter 27 ‘Environment and Climate Change’, jointly work on the analysis of Eurean regulations and devel justifications for transitional periods that Ukraine would potentially need to implement them.
Among other things, the project invves active work with four clusters in Ukraine on the implementation of the National Waste Management Plan, namely in the Ivano-Frankivsk, Odesa, Kharkiv and Ptava regions. Coeration is expected to cover 38 Ukrainian communities that will exchange experience with 40 Swedish municipalities and 16 waste management erators.
In addition, the Swedish side will help Ukraine implement the provisions of the Minamata Convention and the Stockhm Convention, as well as create a register of chemical substances and integrate it into the Eurean one.
A reminder that the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the National Waste Management Plan until 2033, which provides for covering 85% of Ukrainians with househd waste management services by the said year.
