The Ukroliyaprom Association plans to prepare and submit to the Cabinet of Ministers initiatives from its members aimed at creating conditions for maximizing the processing of oilseeds, in particular rapeseed and soybeans, at domestic enterprises. The goal is to expand production capacity, increase production volumes and grow exports of high-value-added goods, the association's press service reports.
Stepan Kapshuk, CEO of Ukroliyaprom, noted that in the 2024-2025 marketing year (September-December), Ukrainian processing capacities for oilseeds are operating at only 50-60%. This is explained not so much by the decline in the sunflower harvest in 2024, but by the fact that farmers are not selling their products.
“Some enterprises have switched to soybean processing. As for rapeseed, we were unable to attract it for processing, unlike last season, when a record amount was processed – more than a million tons, due to significant exports. Soybean processing will exceed 2.5 million tons, but this crop, like rapeseed, is primarily oriented towards export,” he added.
Kapshuk highlighted the key trends in the Ukrainian oilseed market in the 2024/25 season: inconsistent and unstable supplies of sunflower from farmers, which did not allow for the formation of sufficient reserves at oil extraction plants in the period from September to March; restrictions on the export of sunflower oil due to problems with the supply of raw materials; a significant increase in soybean processing – more than 2.5 million tons – against the backdrop of record high production and export of soybean oil and meal.
