Austria has provided support to the food initiative “Grain from Ukraine” by allocating 2 million euros, as reported by the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.
According to the information, the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Vitaliy Koval discussed with the Ambassador of Austria to Ukraine Arad Behnke issues of cooperation in the agricultural sector and the development of trade relations. He also expressed gratitude to the Austrian partners for their contribution to the initiative of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky “Grain from Ukraine”.
“This is an additional 2 million euros aimed at food security, which represents an important step in supporting countries at risk of hunger,” he said.
The Minister emphasized that one of the priorities of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy is European integration and spoke about the steps already taken on the way to the EU. In particular, the need for joint work at the level of the European Commission to ensure unimpeded export of Ukrainian agricultural products was discussed.
“Austria remains a significant trading partner for Ukraine: in 2024, bilateral trade in food and agricultural products amounted to $210 million. Ukraine mainly exported corn, fruit and vegetable juices, soybeans, sunflower oil, as well as frozen fruits and nuts. In turn, chocolate and cocoa-based products, ready-made sauces, animal feed, corn, mineral and carbonated waters were imported from Austria,” Koval explained.
The Minister also proposed considering the possibility of introducing a mechanism for insuring agricultural trade operations between Ukraine and Austria against war risks.
