European countries should carry out a long-term work to ensure real energy independence, none of the European countries should depend on a single energy supplier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said Tuesday.
"And we have to make sure that no European country depends on a single energy supplier – especially on Russia. Now everything is on our side – President [of the United States Donald] Trump is going to export more energy. But Europe needs to step up and do more long-term work to ensure real energy independence," he said at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
The Ukrainian head of state emphasized that it is impossible to continue buying gas from Moscow and at the same time demand security guarantees, assistance and cooperation from the United States.
"For example, the Prime Minister of Slovakia does not seek access to American gas, but he has not lost hope of taking advantage of the American security umbrella," he said.
Zelenskyy noted that Europe should have a seat at the table when deals are made for war and peace, and that it "deserves to be more than a mere bystander when its leaders are limited to posting on the X website after an agreement has already been made."
