During the second round of trilateral talks between Ukraine, the United States, and the Russian Federation on February 4 and 5 in the capital of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi, military members of the delegations held a conversation and understand how the ceasefire monitoring by Ukraine, Russia, and the US will technically take place.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this at a meeting with the media, a journalist from Suspilny reports.
“That is, the US confirms its participation. As for Europe, this does not mean that they will not be in this process,” Zelenskyy noted.
Negotiations to end the war in Ukraine
Recall that on February 3, Zelensky said that Russia's attacks on energy indicate Moscow's unwillingness to negotiate, so the work of the Ukrainian delegation will be adjusted. Prior to that, the president reported that the next round of trilateral talks on ending the war were planned for February 4-5 in Abu Dhabi (UAE).
On February 4 and 5, negotiations were held in Abu Dhabi with the participation of the Ukrainian, American, and Russian sides. The discussions lasted approximately five hours. The discussions continued on February 5.
Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council and head of the Ukrainian delegation Rustem Umerov announced the start of the negotiations at around 12:00, and in the evening noted that after the trilateral meeting, the work continued in the format of groups. Later, Umerov said that during the two days of negotiations in Abu Dhabi, the delegations of Ukraine, the United States, and the Russian Federation discussed, in particular, methods for implementing a ceasefire and monitoring the cessation of hostilities.
An agreement was also reached to exchange 314 prisoners — the first such exchange in five months.
On February 5, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the next meeting of the negotiating delegations of Ukraine, the United States, and Russia would take place “in the near future.”
On February 7, Zelensky said that the American delegation at the talks in Abu Dhabi (UAE) on February 4-5 proposed to Ukraine and Russia to end the war by the beginning of this summer. He noted that American partners will likely put pressure on the parties according to this schedule.
