US President's special representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will urgently visit Israel following the strikes on Iranian oil facilities. The visit is scheduled for March 10.
This was reported by The Times of Israel, citing a message from a senior American official to Channel 12.
According to a senior American official, the visit of Witkoff and Kushner will take place against the backdrop of aggravation of relations between the United States and Israel, caused by significant strikes by the Israeli military on Iran's oil infrastructure.
A senior US security official said that Israel had informed the US in advance about plans to attack energy facilities, but did not indicate that the strikes would be so large-scale.
“We don't think it was a good idea,” he said, adding that the US military had expected a largely symbolic strike and was surprised by the scale of the operation.
According to the official, American officials are concerned that attacks on infrastructure that also supplies fuel to Tehran's civilian population could backfire, strengthening the Iranian regime and turning public opinion against Israel and the United States.
According to an Israeli security official, the strikes on the fuel depots were partly intended to send a signal to Tehran to stop attacking civilian targets in Israel.
It is noted that discussion of the strikes has so far taken place mainly at the military level, without a clear political message between governments.
