European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on February 2 during a conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that the European Union will “very soon” present the 20th package of sanctions against Russia.
She wrote about this on the social network X.
The official stressed that as the brutal war against Ukraine approaches its fourth year, Russia “continues to double the number of war crimes, striking civilian infrastructure and homes.”
She emphasized that “day after day, year after year,” Europe's support for Ukrainians remains “unwavering.”
“Very soon we will present our 20th package of sanctions. It is about increasing pressure on Russia to come to the negotiating table with a genuine intention to achieve peace,” von der Leyen said in a post.
The head of the EC also said that the European bloc is moving towards a “single, unified framework “prosperity program” with Ukraine and American partners.
The day before, Zelensky said that Kyiv was counting on the European Union's approval of the 20th package of anti-Russian sanctions at the end of February.
Earlier, Bloomberg, citing officials familiar with discussions within the bloc, reported that the EU, within the framework of the 20th package of sanctions against Russia, is considering replacing the ceiling price for Russian oil with a complete ban on the provision of maritime services for its transportation.
In addition, in the new package of anti-Russian sanctions, the EU is preparing additional restrictions against Russian banks, oil companies, cryptocurrency services and financial institutions in third countries that help circumvent sanctions. The restrictions will also cover more vessels of the shadow fleet.
