US Special Envoy Witkoff Says 'Significant Progress' After First Day of Talks in Geneva

US President Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, announced “significant progress” following the first day of trilateral talks in Geneva.

He wrote about this on the social network X.

“At the direction of President Trump, the United States moderated the third round of trilateral talks with Ukraine and Russia. We thank the Swiss Confederation for its hospitality during today's meetings,” Witkoff wrote.

According to him, both sides agreed to provide updated information to their leaders and continue working towards reaching a peace agreement.

“President Trump's success in bringing both sides of this war together has led to significant progress, and we are proud to be working under his leadership to stop the killing in this horrific conflict,” Witkoff added.

Let us remind you that on February 17, the first day of the next round of trilateral negotiations between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia on ending the war took place in Geneva.

At around 7:50 p.m., the Ukrainian delegation left the hotel where the negotiations were taking place. Later, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov stated that after the joint part of the negotiations, the delegations continued to work in groups on separate areas. According to him, the discussions focused on practical issues and the mechanics of possible solutions.

Umerov also held a separate meeting in Geneva with representatives of the United States, France, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland. The meeting participants discussed the results of the first round of negotiations and synchronized approaches to further steps. He noted that it is important for the parties to maintain a common vision and coordination of actions between Ukraine, the United States, and Europe.
