The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced three dead and five seriously injured service members as a result of an operation against Iran.
The command wrote about this in X.
“As of 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time, March 1, three U.S. service members were killed in action and five were seriously injured as part of Operation Epic Fury. Several others suffered minor shrapnel wounds and concussions — and are now returning to duty,” the statement said.
CENTCOM noted that major combat operations are ongoing.
“The situation is volatile, so out of respect for the families, we will not disclose additional information, including the identities of our fallen soldiers, until 24 hours after next of kin have been notified,” the statement said.
The command also announced the hit on an Iranian Jamaran-class frigate.
“The Iranian Jamaran-class corvette was hit by US forces at the beginning of Operation Epic Fury. The ship is now sinking in the Gulf of Oman near the Chah-Bahar pier. As the president stated, servicemen of the Iranian armed forces, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and the police “must lay down their arms. Abandon the ship,” CENTCOM noted.
Israeli and US military operation against Iran
On February 28, Israel attacked the Iranian capital, Tehran. US President Donald Trump later said that the US military had launched a “major combat operation” against Iran to “eliminate imminent threats from the Iranian regime”. He accused the Iranian government of “funding and training” militants in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Hamas in Palestine. According to him, the aim of the military operation is to “destroy the missile industry, the navy” and “ensure that the world cannot be destabilised”.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had launched missiles and drones towards Israel, and also attacked US military bases in Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
Amid the US military operation against Iran, French President Emmanuel Macron said that Paris is calling for an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council.
The European Union said it reaffirmed its “unwavering commitment to ensuring regional security and stability” in the Middle East.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, commenting on events in the Middle East, said that it is fair to give the Iranians a chance to get rid of the “terrorist regime and guarantee the security of all peoples who have suffered from attacks from Iran.”
On February 28, US President Donald Trump tweeted that Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was dead. The information was later confirmed by the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).
On March 1, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it was launching “the most devastating offensive operation in the history of the Islamic Republic” against Israel and “American terrorist bases.” US President Donald Trump called on the Iranian regime to abandon these plans and threatened to strike “a very strong blow” in response.
