'We did it.' Skier Diggins ran the final team sprint of the Olympics with her best friend

The most decorated U.S. skier in history, Jessie Diggins, competed in her final Olympic team sprint event, finishing fifth in the event with teammate Julia Kern at the 2026 Games.

After the competition, Diggins and Kern gave an exclusive commentary for Public Sport , in which they shared their emotions after their last joint start at the Olympic Games and the end of Jessie Diggins' career.

“Oh, yeah, it was amazing. We were so excited to do everything we could for each other, and we did. And I'm so proud of both of us. We just gave it our all. And at the end of the day, that's all you can control. And it's really hard, but we went out there and gave it everything we had. And, yeah, I'm really proud of that,” Diggins said of her last race.

“It's such an honor, and it's really touching. I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to look up to Jessie and learn from her throughout my career. And, you know, regardless of today's result, I'm just really proud to have had the opportunity to compete here with Jessie in her last team sprint,” Kern said.
