Ukrainian ambassador to South Africa refuses to honor Ayatollah and publishes letter to Iran

The Iranian Embassy in the Republic of South Africa invited the Ukrainian diplomatic mission to join the book of condolences for the Ayatollah and the military leadership of Iran.

This was reported by the Ambassador of Ukraine to South Africa, Oleksandr Shcherba, on his Facebook page.

On his social media page, Shcherba published the text of his response to the Iranian diplomat.

In the letter, he noted that he considered it necessary to recall the role of the Iranian leadership in cooperation with the Russian Federation during the full-scale war against Ukraine.

“As military allies of the Russian Federation, Iran's leaders have stained themselves with the blood of thousands of Ukrainian citizens — men and women, children and the elderly — killed by the infamous Iranian Shahed drones and other military technology that your government so willingly supplied to Russia,” the letter states.

The diplomat added that as a believer, he does not seek to rejoice in the death of others, but he cannot express grief for those whom he considers to be involved in the suffering of Ukrainians.

“I hope you understand that I will not express grief for people whose deaths do not cause me grief,” Shcherba wrote.

The ambassador also noted that he considers it necessary to publicly voice his position in response to the official appeal.
