Poland is set to launch an information campaign across seven nations aimed at tackling illegal migration, as announced by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, according to RMF24.

“We will soon initiate an information campaign in the seven countries from which the greatest number of migrants attempting to illegally cross into Poland originate,” Tusk stated.

The Polish Prime Minister emphasized, “Our message will be clear: the Polish border is secure.”

He also mentioned that Poland aims to communicate that smugglers, self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, and Russian leader Vladimir Putin should not be relied upon.

“They are misleading you when they suggest this is the route to Europe. That is false. You will no longer be able to seek asylum here, and most importantly, you will no longer be able to illegally enter Poland,” Tusk clarified.

The Polish Prime Minister further noted that every inch of the border is monitored day and night by thousands of soldiers, border guards, and police officers, along with cameras and drones. He presented a brief video showing border guards apprehending individuals attempting to enter Poland unlawfully.

In 2021, the Belarusian government established routes for the transfer of migrants from their country across the European Union’s border, initially to Lithuania and subsequently to Poland. Lukashenko acknowledged that facilitating the smuggling of illegal immigrants is a reaction to EU sanctions against Belarus, which were imposed due to election fraud in the 2020 presidential elections and the subsequent crackdown on the opposition. The movement of individuals (mostly migrants from Yemen, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria) across the border is conducted with the active support of Belarusian border services.

  • On May 28, 2024, three Polish border guards were assaulted by migrants at the border with Belarus, resulting in one of them being stabbed by a foreign national.
  • On June 6, it was reported that a Polish border guard succumbed to injuries sustained from an altercation with a migrant at the Belarusian border in late May.
  • On June 22, Sikorski indicated that Poland was contemplating the complete closure of the border with Belarus.
  • On June 24, Poland dispatched military gendarmerie to the Belarusian border.
  • On March 18, 2025, it was reported that migrants hurled stones at a Polish patrol and caused damage to a service vehicle on the border with Belarus.
