US President Donald Trump is sending a delegation led by Vice President J.D. Vance, special representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to the Pakistani capital Islamabad for talks with Iran.
White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitt announced this at a briefing.
“The first round of talks will take place on Saturday morning. And we look forward to these personal meetings,” she said.
According to the spokeswoman, Iran offered Trump and his team “a smarter, completely different and concise plan.”
“Trump and his team have determined that the new revised plan is a working basis for negotiations and aligning it with our own 15-point proposal. The president's red lines, namely Iran's cessation of uranium enrichment in Iran, have not changed, and the idea that President Trump would ever accept the Iranian wish list as a deal is absurd,” Levitt said.
According to her, Trump will only conclude an agreement “that serves the best interests of the United States of America.”
“His negotiating team will focus on these efforts over the next two weeks, provided that the Strait of Hormuz remains open without restrictions or delays. These extremely sensitive and complex negotiations will take place behind closed doors over the next two weeks,” the spokeswoman said.
