Trump says US will lift some oil-related sanctions against “some countries”

US President Donald Trump announced that the United States will lift some oil-related sanctions to reduce energy prices that have risen amid the US-Israeli operation against Iran. He did not provide details or specify which countries he plans to lift restrictions from.

Trump made this statement on March 9 while speaking to reporters.

“We're also lifting certain oil-related sanctions to bring down prices. We have sanctions on certain countries, so we'll lift them until things settle down. And then who knows, maybe we won't put them back,” Trump said.

The American president also added that “when the time comes,” the US Navy and its partners will escort tankers through the strait as needed, but he hopes this will not be necessary.
