The Speaker of the Georgian Parliament expressed Zelensky's ingratitude. The Head of the Verkhovna Rada responded to him

The Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky does not deserve the support of Georgia, which voted for the UN resolution on peace in Ukraine. The Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, responded to these words.

Papuashvili expressed his opinion on February 25 in comments to journalists.

“Neither Zelensky nor Brussels deserve our support. They are ungrateful people. Where was Britain when people like Zelensky imposed sanctions ?” On December 5, 2024, President Zelensky signed a decree putting into effect the NSDC decision to impose sanctions against the government of Georgia. “on representatives of the Georgian government? That's how ungrateful he is in general. I'm not even talking about the fact that the first American president told him to show some gratitude, and Zelensky shows no gratitude to either America or Georgia,” Papuashvili said.

He commented, in particular, on the anniversary of the Russian full-scale invasion on February 24, that Georgia became one of 107 countries in the world that supported the UN General Assembly resolution “Supporting a lasting peace in Ukraine”. This document, among other things, confirms the commitment to the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine. The US and China abstained from supporting the resolution.

The next day, February 26, Ruslan Stefanchuk responded to Papuashvili's comment on his Facebook page. According to him, he was surprised by “another accusation” from a Georgian official. According to the speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, supporting the UN resolution is “definitely not charity or a feat,” but “a minimum level of decency” in 2026.

He stated that Ukraine is grateful to the Georgian people, in particular to those Georgians who attend rallies in support of Ukraine or fight against the Russian army as part of volunteer battalions.

“Ukraine does not need lessons from moralizers who act as relays of the narratives of the “Russian world”. Ukraine needs real allies – those who understand: in the fight against racist evil, compliments do not count, but rather value a position and support,” Ruslan Stefanchuk concluded.
