Kuwaiti media reported that the injured Supreme Leader of Iran, Mojtaba Khamenei, was allegedly transported to Moscow for treatment.
This is reported by the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jarida.
The Kuwaiti publication Al-Jarida, citing a source close to the Iranian leadership, reported that the country's wounded Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei was allegedly transported to Moscow by a Russian military plane as part of a secret operation.
According to the source, he underwent surgery upon arrival, which was described as “successful.” He is currently reportedly in a private hospital located on the grounds of one of the presidential palaces.
It is noted that Khamenei's injury could have occurred during the bombing of Iran on February 28. Sources claim that due to the threat of new strikes, the Iranian side decided to treat him abroad, as it is allegedly difficult to provide the necessary level of medical supervision within the country.
It is also reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, allegedly offered to provide treatment in Russia. After discussion, the Iranian leadership agreed to this offer.
Meanwhile, another source close to Iranian reformists expressed doubts about the authenticity of the first public address attributed to Khamenei. According to him, the text could have been written by Ali Larijani, the secretary general of Iran's Supreme National Security Council.
Russia has not confirmed these reports. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, answering journalists' questions, said that Moscow does not comment on such media reports.
“We do not comment on any such reports,” Peskov said.
