Teenager arrested in Norway on suspicion of planning attack on NATO base

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in Norway on suspicion of planning a terrorist attack on a NATO base. According to investigators, the boy was allegedly radicalized and brought an ISIS flag to school.

This is reported by the public broadcaster NRK.

The Norwegian Police Security Service said the teenager was detained in Rogaland on charges of preparing a terrorist act. The young man was questioned for four to five hours, after which he was taken into custody for two weeks.

According to the prosecution, the boy planned to blow up a NATO facility in Yatto, a joint military operations center in Stavanger. Two data carriers were also seized during the investigation, the contents of which are currently unknown.

According to NRK, the teenager expressed sympathy for ISIS and brought the organization's flag to school. Defense lawyer Knut Lerum said his client pleaded not guilty.

The detention hearing took place at the South Rugaland District Court in Sandnes. The prosecution reports a risk of falsification of evidence, which could hinder the investigation and trial.
