Intense winds have been howling through northern China since the evening of April 11, leading to the suspension of air and rail services across various regions, according to reports from BBC and China.org.

The National Meteorological Center has prolonged an orange alert for squalls reaching 37-41 m/s in the territories of Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, Hebei, and Beijing until Sunday, April 14. Wind gusts of up to 150 km/h are the highest recorded in the Chinese capital in over fifty years.

In Beijing, wind gusts surpassed 24.5 m/s, prompting the city to issue an orange alert. Certain areas, such as Yanqing and Huairou, will face wind gusts of up to 32 m/s, with even stronger winds in mountainous regions. Consequently, 15 subway lines have been shut down, over 200 km of railway tracks have been suspended, and numerous flights have been canceled.

The winds have caused damage, resulting in 288 fallen trees and 19 damaged vehicles, but fortunately, there have been no injuries or fatalities reported. Several museums and parks in the city have also closed, and gas stations have halted operations. The storm’s impact extends beyond Beijing; Tianjin recorded its strongest winds ever, while Liaoning and other northern areas are experiencing rain and snow.

Due to the cold front, temperatures in some locations have plummeted by 10-20°C. Emergency safety measures have been implemented, with over 3,000 personnel deployed in Shanxi to examine energy facilities.
