
Romanian authorities have extradited former deputy head of the Moldovan Information and Security Service, Alexandru Belan, to Moldova. He was found guilty of revealing state secrets and collaborating with Belarusian special services, and sentenced to 1.5 years in prison.

On April 24, Belan, who was being held in custody in Bucharest, was taken from prison and taken to the border to be handed over to Moldovan law enforcement officers following a recent court ruling on his extradition.
What is known about the Belan case?
Alexandru Belan, former director of the Moldovan Information and Security Service, the country's main intelligence agency, was sentenced in absentia on April 15 to 1 year and 5 months in prison on charges of passing classified state information to the Belarusian KGB.
According to Moldovan media, the verdict was handed down after the first court hearing, which Belan participated in online while under house arrest in Romania. He pleaded guilty and asked for the case to be considered under a simplified procedure.
