Pentagon Inspector General to Investigate Hegsett's Role in Signal Leak Incident

The inspector general of the Pentagon will assess claims against the head of the department, Pete Hegseth, concerning the use of the Signal messaging application for sharing sensitive information about US operations against the Houthis in Yemen, according to NBC News.
The announcement from the Defense Department’s inspector general follows a request made in a letter dated March 26 from the chairman and a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
Besides investigating whether Hegseth complied with regulations related to classified materials, the inspector general will also examine adherence to rules regarding the retention of records.
- On March 24, 2025, it was revealed that journalist Goldberg had gained entry to a group chat on the Signal messaging platform that included high-ranking officials from the Trump administration. This chat addressed US strategies for strikes on Yemen.
