The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) declared on April 12 that they have gained control of the Morag Corridor situated in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, effectively isolating the city of Rafah from Khan Younis. Consequently, Israeli troops have encircled this significant city that borders Egypt. This information was reported by The Times of Israel.
It has been highlighted that the 36th Division is now in command of this corridor, while the Gaza Division is undertaking operations within the Philadelphia Corridor, which extends along the border between Egypt and Gaza.
The Israeli military emphasized that they will now be capable of executing operations in portions of Rafah where active missions have previously not occurred, aiming to dismantle the remnants of Hamas forces.
“This is the final opportunity to eradicate Hamas, secure the release of hostages, and conclude the conflict. The IDF’s vigorous actions will soon extend to other regions of Gaza, necessitating evacuation from the combat zones,” stated Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Katz.
- On January 26, 2025, US President Trump proposed that Arab nations should remove Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to “restore order.” The following day, Egypt and Jordan expressed their refusal to displace Palestinians from the Strip, asserting that Palestine belongs to the Palestinians.
- On February 5, Trump declared that the United States would assume control over and develop the Gaza Strip. Subsequently, the Israeli defense minister instructed the military to devise a plan permitting Gazans to voluntarily depart the region for any country willing to accept them.
- On February 7, the US president reiterated that Israel would transfer Gaza to America post-conflict, with plans for the resettlement of Palestinians.
- The UN has labeled Trump’s initiative to expel Palestinians from Gaza as unlawful.
